Spirit Works:
Irondequoit
I haven’t been to Spirit
Works often (I’m an east side girl),
but when
I’ve visited I’ve been impressed with the warm,
open and friendly welcome I
have received by the staff and by the environment.
Great selection of beautiful yarns, comfy
chairs inviting you to sit down and browse through the patterns-yum!
Yarn Boutique:
Rochester/Brighton
Yarn Boutique
Rochester/Brighton
Yarn Boutique is a wonderful NEW shop located at the twelve corners in Brighton.
Amelia Templar (owner) and her team have selected some yummy yarns and a great
selection of patterns, books and accessories. The best part is the atmosphere and
all the folks working there are sooooo friendly and welcoming….
a really nice place to hang out! In addition, the workshop offerings are very extensive!

Lesley's Favorite
Yarn Shops
A
large part of the joy of fiber arts for me is the variety
of fibers, colors, patterns, ideas and people. I encourage
you to “Dance” at as
many yarn shops as possible. Experience
all the variety. If
you are like me you will visit different
shops for different reasons (sometimes related to projects and
sometimes
related to mood!) I’ve
listed some of my
favorite shops here for you.
Shops
around Rochester, New York:
The Village Yarn & Fiber Shop
East Rochester*
Since I was a very small knitter, The Village Yarn Shop has
been my favorite shop (notice I didn’t say yarn
shop…it’s really my favorite
shop, period). I
have visited shops
across this country and in Europe
and the
wonderfully enormous collection of yarns, books and patterns that Nell
and Van
have collected for their customers is without compare.
The folks at The Village Yarn shop are all
approachable, friendly and knowledgeable, are always willing to answer
questions,
and you never feel pushed or rushed. The shop now shares space with
Jeff’s
Books in Midtown
Plaza*
and is the reason I decided to own
a yarn shop when I grew up!
* As of August 2007 The Village Yarn
& Fiber Shop
has been sold & moved to East Rochester.
The
Sheep and Wool
Shop:
Marion
It’s a beautiful drive to visit the Sheep and Wool Shop
in
Marion NY! When you
get there you will
receive a friendly greeting by Louise’s crew (2 shelties and
2 cats) and then
an even friendlier welcome from Louise herself.
Louise has converted the lower level of her home
into a unique fiber
arts shop. I first
met Louise when she
taught me how to spin (she’s a patient and gifted teacher). There is always something
new at The Sheep
and Wool Shop. Louise
has also found the
synergy between fiber arts and jewelry-making and offers beads and
jewelry-making supplies in addition to a large selection of knitting,
felting
and spinning supplies.
